Penguin, They Yelled

It was the cold that bothered

everyone the most.

The watery green paint chilled

the female competitors.

The men jumped up and down and huddled

warming their egos

She stood away from her sisters and looked

to the enthusiastic Phi Kaps.

Her smile hid her subconscious envy as she wanted

to be welcomed into their ranks.

Over the squeals of excitement, she heard

her name whispered to others.

She saw one of the men quickly disappear

into the sea of bros.

“Penguin!” they yelled!

Immediately they swarmed around me, repeating

the word penguin.

Chests bumped into each other excitedly

as I felt a surge of warmth wash over me.

In that instant I could have cried,

but not from sadness or the bitter cold.

It was acceptance that I could feel

and I knew I belonged.

Snap Me

I’m waiting.

Can’t you hear the silence between us?

It’s anxiety but

it sounds more than lust.

So fleeting.

That image of you is so fleeting.

It may be enough for ten seconds, but I can’t

ignore how it makes my heart start rapidly beating.

I’m waiting again.

My iPod looks so lonely in my hand again.

I smile back with a wink to display my feelings and

the cycle once again begins.

The Gods

I imagine the gods saying we will love them again.

I imagine they say many things to each

other, but not a lot to us.

But maybe there’s a reason for that.

We question them, plead with them and even

threaten them, demanding to know what we did wrong

to deserve the fate handed us.

Can’t. Stop.

Inspired by something I accidentally said once…it kinda just came out…hence the nature of this poem!

Can’t. Stop.

I can’t

stop.

The words are

rising in my

chest. Higher

and higher.

No

I can’t

stop. I have to

say it. I

feel it. I

need you to know

I’m falling in love with you!

Pantoum Poem on College

The reason this poem is a little choppy is because it is a Pantoum poem. They are tricky to work with since they repeat lines.
I went with the topic of college and tried to hit some hot spots related to sorority girls, as I am one. (Proud to be an Alpha Sigma Tau, btw!)
Enjoy!

College

“I said that I would never date a smoker
Not even an enthusiastic partier.
I said I would never ever eat hummus
But that didn’t work out so well later.

Not even an enthusiastic partier
Perhaps my adventurous side is coming out.
But do I qualify him as a bad boy?
Or is love finally coming about?

Perhaps my adventurous side is coming out
Parties, hookah and liquor
But time is still given to my studies
Even when I’m not drinking something bitter.

Parties, hookah and liquor
That’s not all of who I am.
I am a sister, a student, an ambitious woman
Who, for her career, will do whatever she can.”

Smaug’s Painting

At my college there is a competition going on for a poetry award. Being in a poetry class, I was immediately drawn to it. I will be sampling my pieces here before putting it in the portfolio to present for the award. Enjoy!

Even as a die-hard LOTR and Hobbit fan, no one compares to my sister. Except maybe Stephen Colbert. While struggling for inspiration, I thought of Smaug who I incidentally dressed up as at the premiere of The Desolation of Smaug (DoS) in my hometown. Since I paint as well, I decided to write a poem about the difficulty of painting Smaug. All Rights Reverved (except for Smaug of course…)

Smaug’s Painting

“You’re focused in my mind’s eye

Like the picture of a sparkling beach

Thin lines of charcoal simply can’t do you justice

With your eyes the colour of a peach

Bright sparks of red

Spit from between your fangs

I try to capture your draconic beauty

But around my canvas your wings hang.”

What is Lifeglittr All About?

Hi all!

Firstly, thank you all for visiting my blog! I look forward to presenting many interesting and creative posts.

I came up with the name “Lifeglittr” as my blog name/title because it gave me the impression of life’s silver linings. And everyone needs a silver lining! And I like glitter.

This blog will be a space for me to present my writings, both drafts and developed versions, along with short films I work on in and outside of my production classes at my University. This blog will help me form my final portfolio as I step into the working world. Your positive critiques and thoughts are much appreciated. Where I am grateful for feedback, please try to keep it positive. If something I write clashes with your personal beliefs, please refrain from negative comments if you consider writing any.

Thank you and enjoy!!
